Coping

The capped edging around a pool's rim that joins the shell to the deck — both a finished trim and a barrier that keeps deck water out of the pool.

Coping is the material that caps the top edge of the pool shell where it meets the surrounding deck. Beyond looks, it provides a finished handhold, protects the shell's edge, and is shaped to direct splash-out and rainwater away from the pool.

Options range from poured concrete and pavers to natural stone and brick, and the choice affects both the budget and the deck's overall style. It's typically priced per linear foot of pool perimeter.
