Microinverter

A small inverter mounted under each individual panel that converts its DC output to AC on the spot, improving shade tolerance and per-panel monitoring.

Microinverters (such as Enphase units) sit on each panel and convert DC to AC individually, rather than wiring panels in series to one central string inverter. Because each module operates independently, shading or a fault on one panel doesn't drag down the whole array.

They cost more than a string inverter but add per-panel monitoring and handle complex or partially shaded roofs well. The main alternative is a string inverter, sometimes paired with DC power optimizers for similar panel-level benefits.
