Skimmer
The intake opening at the waterline that pulls in floating debris before it sinks, feeding surface water to the pump and filter.
A skimmer is the rectangular mouth set into the pool wall at the waterline. As the pump draws water, the skimmer captures floating leaves and debris in a basket before they sink to the floor, sending surface water on to the filter.
Most residential pools have one or two skimmers positioned with the prevailing wind. Together with the main drain, they form the suction side of the circulation loop that keeps the pool clean and supports proper turnover.
