Waste factor
The extra material ordered beyond the net measured area to cover cuts, overlaps, and breakage — you pay for the order area, not the net wall.
Siding, flooring, and paving all carry a waste factor, often 10-15%. It's why a re-side's squares to order exceed the raw wall area, and why bids quote an order quantity rather than the exact measurement.
