Maine siding estimate

Maine Siding Cost Calculator (2026)

Compare a consistent house and installation scope before customizing. The Maine regional model factor is 1.03× and adjusts the modeled subtotal; it is not a measured local labor rate. Price inputs last updated July 6, 2026.

A two-story vinyl siding scenario in Maine

45 × 30 ft footprint (150 ft perimeter), 19 ft walls, gable roof, 12 windows, 2 doors, 1 garage door, no tear-off. These are also the calculator's initial settings, not measured averages of local homes.

  • Wall area = footprint perimeter × 19 ft grade-to-eave height; a 1.5:1 rectangle is assumed when only the perimeter is known.
  • 2 gable triangles estimated at a 6/12 pitch for the "gable" roof style.
  • Openings reduced at 75% of their area (trim and cuts eat part of the saving); waste factor 13%.
  • Re-siding typically needs a building permit in Maine; HOAs and historic districts may review material and color, and rotted sheathing found at tear-off is the classic change order. Coastal wind and salt favor durable, well-fastened cladding.

Installed-price bands and regional factors are planning inputs. The model includes a generic permit allowance but excludes hidden rot, replacement sheathing, structural repairs and hazardous-materials work. See data provenance and limitations and the calculation method.

Maine siding estimates with and without tear-off

Standard removal is not lead remediation or asbestos abatement. Hidden rot, structural work and replacement sheathing are excluded. The model contains a generic permit allowance, not your municipality's fee schedule. A regional factor adjusts the modeled subtotal; it is not a measured Maine hourly wage.

Before removing old siding in Maine

For an older house, ask a qualified professional to identify the existing material and coating before agreeing to demolition. Maine DEP publishes specific asbestos-siding guidance and lead-safe renovation resources. Do not treat the calculator's ordinary tear-off allowance as a hazardous-materials quote or attempt to identify asbestos from appearance alone.

The EPA's homeowner renovation guidance explains why pre-1978 painted surfaces need particular care and how to find lead-safe certified contractors. Ask for testing, protection, disposal and any specialist work to be priced separately; this page is a budget guide, not a removal procedure.

Separate the siding job from wall weatherization

When planning the exterior work, ask whether the wall assembly needs moisture repairs, flashing, air sealing or insulation. Efficiency Maine's insulation guidance discusses these as energy and comfort measures. A siding replacement is not automatically an eligible insulation project, and no rebate is deducted in this calculator.

Use the program's registered-vendor directory for a separate energy assessment where appropriate. Check current program conditions before contracting; keep any incentive out of the base comparison until eligibility is confirmed.

Compare local quotes on the same scope

Request measured exterior wall area rather than indoor floor area, the exact product and finish, trim and flashing details, removal and disposal, access equipment, repair allowances and payment milestones. Ask the municipality responsible for your address about permits and any historic-district or design review. Do not apply another town's requirements or a statewide calculator allowance to your property.
